NY State Assembly Member Michael Cusick Endorses Andrew Yang for Mayor
**RELEASE** May 16th, 2021
New York, NY—Today, New York State Assembly Member Michael Cusick endorsed Andrew Yang for Mayor of New York City, capping off a week full of endorsements for Yang's mayoral campaign that included Congresswoman Grace Meng, State Senators Toby Ann Stavisky and Jeremy Cooney, and former Assembly Member Walter Mosley. The endorsements underscored the growing coalition of diverse, multi-generational leaders who share Andrew's hopeful vision for New York's recovery. Said State Assembly Member Michael Cusick, “Andrew Yang has taken the time to really understand the issues facing Staten Islanders. He is focused on property tax reform when we are facing the highest effective tax rate of all five boroughs. He has an innovative approach to ignite small business by eliminating hurdles our business owners often face from city government and placing a moratorium on fines when they need it most. He strikes the right balance on public safety and realizes the importance of the NYPD as we tackle an increase in crime across all of New York. He is the right leader to bring our city back stronger and safer. Andrew Yang will be the candidate that I will rank first in the upcoming Democratic primary for Mayor.”
Said Andrew Yang, “Assembly Member Cusick has been fighting for the people of Staten Island powerfully for years. I’m thrilled that he has endorsed my candidacy, and recognizes that I will be a mayor for all five boroughs – especially for New Yorkers who have felt overlooked and marginalized by city government. I look forward to partnering with Mike to deliver results that improve our way of life.”
A lifelong resident of Staten Island, Assembly Member Cusick served as Director of Constituent Services for U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer, where his duties included serving as Senator Schumer’s liaison to New York State elected officials and various federal agencies, as well as managed the day-to-day operation of the senator’s New York City office. As Chair of the Assembly Energy Committee, Cusick has taken an active role in efforts to secure the energy grid against cybersecurity threats, worked to increase the adoption of electric-drive vehicles, and supported efforts to bring the offshore-wind industry to New York. Cusick is also a member of the Assembly Committees on Governmental Employees, Higher Education, Veterans Affairs, and Ways and Means, as well as a member of the National Conference of State Legislators Energy Task Force and the Council of State Governments Energy and Environment Committee.
