New York, NY—Today, Andrew Yang, Democratic candidate for mayor of NYC, will continue his five borough tour for New York City Recovery Week in Queens.
Top of mind for Andrew as he heads to Queens is the crisis on top of the crisis that has swept New York’s Asian American communities: Anti-AAPI hate crimes and vandalism, which continue to target small businesses and local families alike.
Since the earliest days of the pandemic, Andrew has sounded the alarm, knowing that “racism gets stronger when people don't have jobs and are worried about the future.” Despite these clear and persistent warnings, adequate help from government is still not on the way.
Hate crimes have become yet another life-or-death issue that Asian American families have been forced to navigate alone. Andrew will send a clear message that they are forgotten no more. Andrew will join the small business owners he is meeting with tomorrow in saying: Enough is enough.
